The remaining cameras must connect through an appropriate PoE switch or network switch with suitable power and uplink capacity. The recorder supports up to sixteen channels of simultaneous playback, so channel capacity and playback capacity should be considered separately when designing the monitoring station.
Channel Count Versus PoE Port Count
Channel count and PoE port count should always be checked separately. A recorder may accept camera streams over the network while providing PoE power only to a smaller number of directly connected cameras.

When using external PoE switches, allow for the total power draw of all connected cameras, the network uplink speed, cable distances and the location of the network equipment. The switch should also be suitable for the camera features being used, including PTZ operation, infrared illumination or active deterrence.
How Much Storage Does an NVR Need?
Channel count alone does not determine hard drive capacity. Storage requirements depend on the number of cameras, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, compression, recording schedule, motion activity and retention period.
Continuous recording from sixteen high-resolution cameras will require substantially more storage than motion-based recording from four lower-resolution cameras. Audio, event recording and analytics metadata can also affect storage requirements.

Can I connect more cameras than an NVR has PoE ports?
