The B4 keyfob is where U-Prox gains a practical advantage

This is one of the clearest everyday differences between the two platforms.

The U-Prox Keyfob B4 provides three buttons for security-mode control plus a separate programmable button. U-Prox specifically identifies that additional control as a button for automation.

An installer can therefore assign the programmable button to a supported automation function within the U-Prox system. Depending on the system design and connected hardware, this can provide convenient control of a configured relay or automation output for applications such as:

• opening a gate;
• operating a garage door;
• controlling lighting;
• triggering a configured relay;
• controlling another supported automation function.

Ajax SpaceControl is also a four-button, two-way keyfob, but its standard Ajax-hub functions are Arm, Disarm, Night Mode and Panic. Ajax states that SpaceControl button reassignment is not provided when it is used with an Ajax hub.

Ajax does provide other automation options. A separate Ajax Button can operate in Control mode and can be used to control automation devices. The difference is that U-Prox gives the user an additional programmable function directly on the standard B4 keyfob they may already carry for everyday alarm control.

App control and user experience

This category goes to Ajax.

Both platforms provide mobile control, notifications and installer tools, but Ajax has built an especially polished consumer-facing ecosystem. Its app presentation, product integration and overall software experience are among the reasons the platform has developed a strong following.

U-Prox Home provides straightforward everyday control, while U-Prox Installer gives security professionals configuration and system-management tools. For many installations the U-Prox experience is more than adequate, but if app polish and ecosystem familiarity are the deciding factors, Ajax deserves the advantage here.

Wireless reliability and radio range

Both platforms use proprietary encrypted wireless protocols and can provide excellent performance when designed correctly.

Manufacturer open-space range figures should never be treated as guaranteed indoor coverage. Reinforced concrete, steel framing, foil insulation, multiple floors, plant rooms and RF interference can substantially reduce usable range.

U-Prox publishes long open-space range figures for compatible MPX devices and supports up to eight repeaters on MPX LE. That is intentionally a narrow recommendation. Ajax is an excellent platform and wins our app and ecosystem category. Both brands use secure two-way communication, both can provide photo verification, and both can support substantial residential and commercial systems.

U-Prox gets across the line for us because of two practical factors.

First, the B4 keyfob gives the installer a programmable automation button directly on the standard four-button remote. Ajax SpaceControl's fourth button is dedicated to Panic when used with an Ajax hub, and its buttons are not reassignable in that configuration.
