Start with the building, not the alarm panel

Turn the floor plan into zones

A zone is an individual alarm input or defined detection point. Depending on the system, a zone may be assigned to a door contact, motion detector, glass-break detector, smoke detector, panic input, tamper circuit or another connected device.

Good zone planning makes the system easier to understand when an alarm or fault occurs. Instead of showing a vague message such as “Warehouse alarm”, the system should identify a useful location such as “Warehouse roller door”, “Reception PIR” or “Server room door”.
