Shielded vs Unshielded Cat6 Cable for CCTV and Access Control Installations
Essential Security Supplies
Choose shielded or unshielded Cat6 by assessing the electrical environment, equipment instructions and complete termination system. Shielding can help control electromagnetic interference, but it is not a substitute for correct routing, compatible connectors or suitable environmental protection. Unshielded Cat6 can suit many indoor links when the installation and equipment permit it. For NZ CCTV and access control, specify the complete cable system rather than choosing by jacket...

Pet-Immune PIR Detectors: Mounting, Animal Size and False-Alarm Limitations
Essential Security Supplies
Pet-immune PIR detectors reduce unwanted alarms from animals only within the conditions specified for the exact model. An animal weight rating is not a promise that every smaller animal will be ignored in every room. Mounting height, lens pattern, furniture and climbing routes all affect the result. For NZ installers, the right starting point is a room survey and the current detector instructions, followed by a documented...

19-Inch Rack Cabinet Buying Guide for CCTV and Security Networks
Essential Security Supplies
A 19-inch rack cabinet should be selected around the equipment, installation location and maintenance tasks it must support. Height alone is a poor buying shortcut. CCTV recorders, PoE switches, patch panels and UPS units can fit the same mounting width while needing very different depths, supports and airflow. For NZ security projects, start with a measured equipment schedule and check the exact cabinet variant before ordering.

Centralised vs Distributed Security Power Supplies: Which Architecture Is Better?
Essential Security Supplies
Centralised security power places supplies and batteries together, usually in a secure equipment room. Distributed power places smaller supplies closer to the equipment they serve. Neither arrangement wins every project: the better choice follows cable distance, fault consequences, battery servicing and the agreed behaviour of each door during a failure. For NZ installers, the useful comparison is the complete powered circuit, rather than the number of boxes...
